Setanta Jugger Club
Na geill go bhfaightear sli! – Never give up, you will always find a way!
The Irish Jugger team Setanta was founded by Mark Hill in 2006. After returning to Ireland, from playing Jugger in Germany for two years, he formed the Jugger Society in I.A.D.T Dun Laoghaire which Setanta was the team of. In its first year the Jugger Society won Best New Society within the I.A.D.T.
Setanta competed in the first ever co-organised International Jugger Tournament held in Hamburg Germany in the summer of 2007. And returned in August of that year to compete in the Hamburg Jugger Tournament. In 2008 the I.A.D.T Jugger Society became a sports club and won Club of the Year and hosted the first ever Irish International Jugger Tournament. Later that year the club hosted the touring Australian Jugger team in Dublin and played a friendly series in both Irish and Australian Jugger rules. In this year the second ever Irish Jugger team was founded Cú Chulainn. Together, the two Jugger teams Setanta and Cú Chulainn competed in the Berlin National Jugger Tournament in September 2008.
Over the next few years Jugger in Ireland ebbed and flowed, with societies being set up in other colleges with mixed results. Every year though at least one Jugger team would travel abroad to either Germany or more recently Spain to represent Ireland proudly on an international stage.
Currently known as the Setanta Jugger Club, based in Fairview Park, Dublin 3, the club boast two highly competitive teams and are growing at a rate not seen before domestically.
